The Artist Loft Studio Classes

Weekly Classes

LOCATION: 2600 Harbor Blvd., Costa Mesa, CA 92626, upstairs inside Ace Hardware

With over three decades of serving the local art community in Costa Mesa, The Artist Loft Studio faces closure. Ace Hardware will close it doors March 31, 2020, thus TALS finds itself without a home.  February is the last month of classes. March we pack-up all the easels and paints and vacate the premises as of March 31, 2020.

We are now searching for a new home. If you have a place or know of a possible new location that would provide about 850 sq.ft. with a bathroom and a sink, please contact TALS Manager, Bob Bucci at 949.413.8811 today. Time is of the essence.

I will continue to offer classes in January and shift them to my private home studio as of March until TALS lands a new studio space. No matter where I teach, my goal is to provide a safe and inspiring creative environment for artists, whether a beginner ready to learn, a hobby artist wanting to spread their wings, or an experienced artist who wishes to deepen in a new skill.

My current teaching schedule at this public studio is:

Every Thursday Morning: ART JOURNAL/Altered Books, 10am - 1pm $35 per session.

Walk-ins are welcome.

Mixed Media Classes

Kisma's Private Home Studio, Newport Beach

6 - 8 pm

$35.00 per class

Limited to 4 students each class

Cost of class includes all basic supplies and special supplies. All student needs to bring is their own substrate (canvas or paper) and personal palette.

LOCATION: Private home studio address provided upon registration.

Layers and layers and layers of fun! Whether on paper or canvas - clothe or wood - whether encaustic or glowing with the illumination of creativity, Mixed Media is more than meets the eye.

Students are encouraged to open to the project I am working on.

Each class will offer a technique demonstration and often a tool demonstration.

This is where we spread our wings and soar outside the box into the intuitive world of creativity. The canvas is your created world.

Supplies are anything and everything. However, aside from the chosen substrate, here is a list of what I feel are basic supplies you might be interested in eventually collecting for your personal home stash.

I do recommend on working on a canvas that is no larger than 16x20 if this is your first project.

What can't be added to this list, is your stash of assorted textures, textiles, ephemera, focal points and tid-bits of novelty items, or the many mediums and tools I demonstrate over time.

To build up your own mixed media home supplies, see my idea list to help you.

If you have never seen an altered book, take a look at the video of my first Altered Book.

These artsy repurposed old books are turned into very unique art journals that have been featured in Art Magazines, Museums and Galleries. They are THAT cool.

These are small mixed media, multi-layered mini pieces of art contained in vintage form that will rely heavily on collage work, though we utilize acrylics, watercolors, pastels, crayons, markers, etc.

Lots of in class time for creating is given.

The following link will take you to the Altered Book Supply Link and contains items that are recommended and are supplies you will eventually want to collect for your personal home stash.

Mandatory: you must bring an altered book to class. Please view my video on How to Re-purpose an old book. This is all you need to do.
